Following receipt of planning permission this new 87,000 sq.ft. Tesco Extra store has now been built on the edge of the town centre. The works were undertaken on an accelerated built programme (completion November 2006) allowing Tesco to capture the Christmas 2006 trade.

Carmarthen Athletic Rugby Club who once occupied part of the site have relocated to a new site in the town. The enhanced facilities at the new ground include a new purpose built training barn.
