Morbaine Group originally purchased the old laundry on this site in 1989 and developed out a DIY store for the B&Q chain who operated on the site until 2007.

The industrial factory to the rear of the store has lain empty and unlet since 2001.

In December 2009 the City of Edinburgh Council gave consent to trade the combined sites as a refurbished 35,500 sq.ft. foodstore but we have begun consultations with the appropriate stakeholders for proposals to erect a new 80,000 sq.ft. foodstore on the land which will create up to 400 new jobs to the area.

The foodstore will be unique to Edinburgh in that the store will be constructed 'on stilts' and will comprise two levels.

The ground floor level will accommodate a light, secure and weatherproof car park. The sales area will occupy the first floor level with access between the two being provided via travelators.

A public exhibition and consultation was held on 14th and 15h April 2010 which indicated an overwhelming amount of public support for the scheme (see pre-application report included in the application proposals below).
