Following receipt of planning permission this new 87,000 sq.ft. Tesco Extra store was built on the edge of the town centre. The works were undertaken on an accelerated built programme allowing Tesco to capture the Christmas trade.

Carmarthen Athletic Rugby Club who once occupied part of the site have relocated to a new site in the town. The enhanced facilities at the new ground include a new purpose built training barn.
